System boundaries are crucial for evaluating a product’s sustainability in a comprehensive and accurate manner.

By defining clear system boundaries, we can determine which life cycle phases and environmental impacts to include in the assessment. Today, in the pavement industry, when evaluating a product’s sustainability we mostly focus on CO2 emissions. What other relevant factors should we focus on to better measure sustainability for construction materials used in road construction?
